Windows Experience

As a consultant, i regularly get queried by my corporate client's about my preference for my Mac PowerBook. While I have not developed a comprehensive list of of all the perceived benefits, the following example is one.

I am currently working on a large project. My typical day starts (after my early morning workout) with me leaving the hotel room. This consists of disconnecting my PowerBook from the hotel's ethernet cable (Internet) and closing my computer screen (automatically putting it into sleep mode). Please note that I haven't shutdown for three weeks. This includes daily movements, airplane rides, etc. After breakfast, i head into my client's office. As soon as I get there, I start my corporate Dell PC laptop (client loaner). While Windows is booting, I plug in the corporate ethernet cable and plug in a AC adapter to my Mac. I download my e-mail and start processing it on my Mac. About this time my Dell finally gets to the Window's network log on. I enter my ID and password and start the network sign on. Now I process the rest of my e-mail on my Mac. I may then lookup something on the Internet or begin work (as I am already connected to the corporate network with my Mac). Finally some time later my PC is booted, connected to the network, and ready for work. I always wonder how much work productivity is lost in the corporate world while employees wait for the Window's bootup.
